Welcome back Year 3 students!
This year is yet another exciting, busy and demanding year here at the academy. Year 3 is indeed a sound stepping stone that will lead you into the more challenging student years still up ahead in school. This is the year that you will have to really start thinking about your future both as academy students—current, and future—but also start envisioning your life as university students and later on as professionals. This is the year that you will need to make decisions that will shape your future paths and endeavours.
Academically, it is important to know that in Year 3 you will already start studying for your GCSE courses in Mathematics and Science. As I mentioned above, this is going to give you a good glimpse into the work and dedication you need to apply towards your GCSEs before heading into your extensive GCSE options in Year 4. The school’s academic counsellors will naturally be there to guide you and help you in this decision, with detailed presentations to you and your parents at the end of January, with your final decisions handed in around mid-February.
This year is again an opportunity to partake in even more extra-curricular activities. Apart from the plethora of clubs you are already aware of from the previous years, this year you will be able to begin the Duke of Edinburgh Award—an exciting course that promotes independence, team-work skills and ultimately pushes personal boundaries. I strongly encourage you to participate in as many extra-curricular activities as you can—these are the memories you will share with your friends, your fellow students, these are the foundation to demonstrate and truly embrace our school’s motto “To Grow and to Serve”.
I leave you with two expressions that you should always have in mind at all times.
"In a world where you can be anything, be kind first."
"If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you, if you are determined to learn, no one can stop you."
