For Year 6 students, this year will be an unforgettable one for two main reasons. Firstly, they will have their first contact with A’ Level exams. This means that a great deal of work lies ahead of them; they need to manage their time effectively, stay disciplined, and study hard throughout in order to achieve good AS results at the end of this academic year. The whole process may appear to be stressful and demanding, but it will guarantee a place at a good university and a chance to pursue their dream career. The Counsellors of the school and I will be next to them for any advice they need.
Secondly, Year 6 students will have one of the most precious experiences in their whole Academy life – the trip to Greece at the end of the year. This will be a unique event not only because it will offer students the opportunity to meet new places, but also because it will be the result of a series of initiatives that will strengthen their bonds and cultivate a spirit of teamwork. In fact, part of the ticket to Greece will be subsidised by the money they will manage to raise through various events throughout the year. For this purpose, we had a number of meetings during summer in order to plan the most important events and we have already established committees which are responsible to organise these activities. My role as Head of Year 6 is to coordinate these committees and monitor the whole process.
It should be noted that some of the events are sponsored by the organising teachers, but some others are not. For those which are not sponsored, the American Academy of Larnaca cannot be held responsible.
Let me take this opportunity to wish to all Year 6 students a productive and memorable year.
